Obama Opens the Door to Prosecution of Interrogation Memo Authors

President Obama addressed questions today about prosecuting the authors of Bush Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel memos on enhanced interrogation techniques during a media availability with King Abdullah II of Jordan:

Q: I want to ask you about the interrogation memos that you released last week; two questions. You were clear about not wanting to prosecute those who carried out the instructions under this legal advice. Can you be that clear about those who devised the policy? And then quickly on a second matter, how do you feel about investigations, whether special -- a special commission or something of that nature on the Hill to go back and really look at the issue?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, the -- look, as I said before, this has been a difficult chapter in our history, and one of the tougher decisions that I've had to make as president. On the one hand, we have very real enemies out there. And we rely on some very courageous people, not just in our military but also in the Central Intelligence Agency, to help protect the American people. And they have to make some very difficult decisions because, as I mentioned yesterday, they are confronted with an enemy that doesn't have scruples, that isn't constrained by constitutions, aren't constrained by legal niceties.

US TERROR TEENS: IT'S FIGHT & DIE

Two young Americans revealed that they joined an al Qaeda-linked group in war-torn Somalia so they could die fighting in a Muslim holy war, it was reported yesterday.

The two men are believed to be among the more than 20 young Somali-Americans who vanished from the Minneapolis area and three other states to join a training camp of the terrorist al-Shabab organization.

The two, who used the names Abu-Muslim and Abu Yaxye, spoke out for the first time at a bizarre "press conference" in Somalia on Sunday, Fox News reported.

Obama to call for nuclear-free world

PRAGUE (Reuters) - President Barack Obama will call for the elimination of all nuclear weapons across the globe, in remarks on Sunday he hopes will lend credibility to his message in atomic disputes with Iran and North Korea.

Visiting Prague during an eight-day visit to Europe, Obama plans to deliver what his aides have billed as a major speech on weapons proliferation.

Obama, who is making his debut on the world stage, said in Strasbourg, France on Friday that he would lay out an agenda to secure the world's loose nuclear materials and halt the spread of illicit weapons.

He added that he wanted to offer an agenda "to seek the goal of a world without nuclear weapons."

Study shows divorce can be deadly

A new German study shows that people who divorce die years sooner than others, putting them in company with smokers, the homeless, and the poorly educated.


Divorced people on average have a life span nine years shorter than others, according to the study by Rostock University’s centre for demographic research released this week.

“We assume that being divorced strongly influences lifestyle,” study contributor Gabriele Doblhammer told daily paper Der Tagesspiegel on Wednesday. “Married people seem to have a more regulated lifestyle than singles, and the divorced embody a combination of factors that can lead to an earlier death.”

The study, which reviewed the influence of social behaviors and conditions on the life expectancies of 50-year-old Germans, found that on average, men can expect to reach 77-years-old, and women 82.3-years-old.

Researchers chose to study 50-year-old subjects because they have “already experienced a lot and adopted behaviors that have an influence on death risks,” Doblhammer told the paper.

People found to have the highest life expectancy were non-smokers, moderate drinkers, married, high-school educated and employed. Females from this group also had one to two children.

Barack Obama Is a Muslim - Qaddafi

Libyan leader Mu'ammar al-Qadhafi proclaims Barack Obama suffers from an inferiority complex that might make him behave "whiter than white". He goes on to mention that Obama should be proud of his African, Muslim [sic] identity. The Libyan gives his take on the current elections campaign in the United States.

Qadhafi was responding to Obama's AIPAC pandering in which he stated Jerusalem shall be undivided at the Isralobby's 2008 Policy Conference. This statement incurred the wrath of the Arab media which led Obama to later 'readjust' his statement.

Everytime I watch a Qadhafi speech I burst into laughter. This man -- a merge of Mick Jagger and Gene Simmons -- tends to be an Africanist one day and a pan-Arabist the next. The man is getting old. Have fun watching! Originally broadcast on al-Jazeera TV.
